Project Concept

Perched between rock and sea, Torre Minerva rises as a subtle mark along the line of time. It does not seek transformation through contrast, but through listening. Architecture does not replace — it reveals. It does not overwrite — it illuminates what already exists.

The project originates from a light gesture: a silent ray that delicately enters the stone mass, opening space to life and art. The tower is reimagined as a residence for artists — a place of research, creation, and contemplation — in constant dialogue with the powerful landscape of Punta Campanella.

Light becomes the generating principle of the entire intervention. A vertical cone of light descends through the building, carving a central void that brings natural illumination to every level while organizing the spatial sequence. At its summit, the cone opens into glass, becoming both luminous filter and architectural origin. Here, light measures time and space, echoing the spiritual rigor of Tadao Ando’s work.

The tower unfolds as a vertical journey:

• At the Lower Ground Floor, a discreet entrance marks the threshold into the tower.
• One level below, at the heart of the structure, an exhibition space is accessed via an internal spiral staircase — a silent chamber dedicated to artworks and installations.
• At the Ground Floor, the artist’s studio takes form — a space for experimentation and production.
• The First Floor houses the private residence, organized around the central light void.
• At the top, a panoramic terrace opens toward the marine horizon, accessible through the original tower stair.

Above, a lightweight copper roof lifts like a sail — fragmented and dynamic. Its fluid geometry recalls the sculptural language of Frank Gehry, evoking waves shaped by wind. Copper, a living material, evolves over time, gradually merging with stone and salt, allowing the architecture to age with dignity.

The intervention extends beyond the tower itself. Carved into the rock, a multifunctional platform faces the sea — conceived as a stage for performance arts. Inclined cuts in the concrete walls guide light and perspective, framing both performer and landscape. A space for music, poetry, and voice — open to multiple artists and diverse audiences.

The project does not seek prominence. It inhabits the silence of the tower, accompanying it with new light and new sound.

In the balance between rigor and lightness, between geometry and gesture, between matter and landscape, architecture becomes time, place, and possibility.
